TETA w JEDDO

Serving Lebanese families

Donations

The project

Our association, TETA w JEDDO, literally meaning "Grandma and Grandpa" in Lebanese dialect, provides material aid and human support to the Lebanese families most affected by the economic crisis that Lebanon is currently experiencing. The project was born shortly after the Beirut harbor explosion of August 4, 2020. Originally, our objective was to help the victims of the accident who were most exposed to misery. The elderly were the most deprived, as there is no pension system in Lebanon. However, the economic crisis has worsened considerably since then. This has pushed us to diversify our assistance and to take care not only of the elderly, but also of families in difficulty.

Concretely, TETA w JEDDO now provides material support to more than a hundred people. This help is done in several different ways: daily home deliveries of traditional hot meals, weekly or monthly food parcels adapted to the needs of the families and to the level of autonomy of the elderly, provision of medication for those who can no longer afford to pay for important medical treatments, participation in specific projects such as works at home, ... In order to maintain a strong link with the families we help and to evaluate their needs, we organize regular home visits.

Our actions

Food aid

Our volunteers distribute weekly food packages for families, or daily hot meals, prepared by the NGO Souk El Tayeb, for isolated people. For the latter, a stocked basket is distributed every Friday for the weekend meals. Concerned about the quality of the food distributed, we take into account tastes, nutritional needs and health problems.

Visits and solidarity

Each weekend, our volunteers visit the elderly and spend time with them. They discuss, bring them flowers, pray with them, ...

These visits allow us to know the needs of the people we help and to follow the evolution of their situation. They also allow us to create a strong bond with them, which is a real pillar of our action.

Sponsorship

To perpetuate a decent living situation for the families we help, we wanted to create a concept of sponsorship between them and other families from abroad. This system aims to constitute a real fraternal environment around isolated people. Also, this sponsorship demonstrates multinational friendship and solidarity between Western and Eastern people.

Medicines

Lebanon is currently facing a serious shortage of medicines. A large number of people, mainly elderly, can no longer find the treatments they need, or can no longer afford them. We help these people by providing them with the necessary medicines. We work in partnership with Valise pour Beyrouth - for the delivery of the medicines - and with the Order of Malta - for the medical follow-up.

Our memo figures:

200

People given occasional help after the explosion

150

People helped daily at the moment

6 - 14

The association operates thanks to 6 employees and 14 volunteers

A development that does not stop there

We search for partnerships and solutions to meet the various needs that have arisen with the current crisis in Lebanon

Lodging

Following the explosion of the Port of Beirut, many homes were destroyed or damaged. Our goal is to help relocated or poorly housed people find a decent place to live.

Jobs

With the worsening of the economic crisis for a year, many Lebanese have seen their standard of living collapse, or even lost their jobs. It seems important to us today to explore avenues to facilitate their return to work.

Basic necessities

With inflation and shortages, many basic necessities (hygiene products, water, certain electronic equipment, etc.) risk becoming difficult to access for the most vulnerable people. We also want to extend our aid to these essential goods.

In a few words

PHŒNIX is an association that brings emergency aid, assistance and humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations due to political, ethnic, economic or social oppression, war, disaster, ecological threats or any other emergency situation in order to meet their vital and basic needs and organize any event to raise funds for this purpose ”.

In a few words

La Guilde is a recognized association of public utility founded in 1967. By arousing a surge of audacity and generosity among young people and by supporting solidarity and cultural projects, it becomes the privileged interlocutor of all those who feel made for greater distances and wish to serve freedoms other than their own.

In a few words, Fleurs du Liban is ...

"Fleurs du Liban" was created in 1992 by Rania Younès, a passionate agricultural engineer determined to participate in her own way in the reconstruction of her country. Starting with only 120 m2 of land to plant Tulips, Rania and her team now have more than 600,000 m2 of land where, summer and winter, 200 different varieties of flowers grow. By transforming the Lebanese floral market from an importation market to a short-circuit sales market, "Fleurs du Liban" has become a model of local agriculture.

"Fleurs du Liban" is our main flower supplier, and every week, we collect their beautiful bouquets to distribute them to the elderly we visit. More than a nice flower arrangement, these bouquets are a unique way of  cheering up the appartments of the elderly, who are sometimes very isolated, and serve as a way to remind them every day what they mean to us.

In a few words, the Diocese of Cologne is ...

The Archdiocese of Cologne is one of 27 Roman Catholic dioceses in Germany. Through the networks of the Catholic Church, the Diocese finances several charitable projects, in particular those linked to foreign missions.

The Diocese of Cologne contributes financially to Teta w Jeddo's project, and opens new ways to raise awareness of the Western populations to the striken Lebanese people's cause.

In a few words, Sandy's Snack is ...

Sandy's Snack is a small family kitchen located in the neighborhood of Teta w Jeddo (Ein El Remaneh). Since December 2021, we have been buying about 50 hot meals a day from this canteen. We then deliver them to some of the families we help in different areas of Beirut (Mar Mikhael, Achrafieh...).

Originally, Laudy Hasbany, a local resident with a passion for cooking, wanted to challenge herself to do more than just a hobby. Encouraged by her husband, she opened her Sandy Snack in 2017. At first, she only cooked a few meals a day. Now helped by a small team of five, she lovingly prepares up to 80 meals a day. Her recipes are very popular in Teta w Jeddo because of their variety and quality. Some days, the house prepares Lebanese specialties (Kebbé, Mjadra,...) Outside of Teta w Jeddo, Laudy sells her different dishes to individuals.
