Teta w Jeddo

Teta Takla and Charbel

Charbel is in his forties and is originally from the Chouf, a mountainous region of Lebanon. He currently lives with his mother Takla in a small flat in Beirut. He was born with a rare genetic disease and poor health. At the age of 12, he had an open heart surgery. Afterwards, he had three back operations related in part to his scoliosis. These operations caused him to have severe lung infections. Since then, he has been sleeping with an oxygen machine, which he must also keep close by during the day. Unlike his brothers who were able to study and marry, Charbel was unable to go to school and was always stuck at home or in the hospital. Beyond his physical pain, Charbel suffers morally from not having been able to live a "normal life". Teta w Jeddo modestly tries to bring him some warmth by coming to see him. In spite of his painful experience, Charbel expresses that he wishes a good life to his visitors.
